Issues with logins / sessions today (2024-05-08) - Fixed

There was an issue today that might have caused issues for some establishing sessions or logging into the website. Those who were already logged in probably would not have noticed anything, other than perhaps some slower speeds.

A botnet was crawling the site from a large number of IP addresses (15000 or so) which filled up the session database table.

The botnet has been blocked and I cleared out the 15000+ entries from the session table.

As of 3:15PM PDT, the issue should be resolved. If you do encounter any errors, please let me know. It is always possible the botnet can come back from another IP range.

Sorry for anyone who experienced errors (503 and such) in the last 10-15 minutes.

This "Alibaba" Chinese botnet came back again from different IP addresses and filled up the session database table.

Fought with them a little bit. Pretty such I won.

Thanks Caddis I kept trying to login and was told the websites certificate had expired ,whatever the bell that is .
I’m so tech illiterate and have trouble with things . My biggest fear is that I will hit the wrong button and loose a whole wack of information saved .

Hey no problem all but just to clarify, this is an older thread about a different issue from months ago.

The issue this time was indeed related to SSL certification expiration... the thread on the November 10-11 issue is here:

Result is the same though. All fixed!
