While driving around seeing no bears (three days left, come on Yogi, show yourself!) I have also seen no grouse! Snowshoe hares, and even a few pheasants low down but no grouse. Is it just me or are grouse numbers low this year? Is it just the season? I know somebody else on that 'where to find grouse from the LML' said they haven't seen many either. I did hear one one time a few days ago. But that's it.
...unless it turns around looks like my small game sideshow will feature Br'er Rabbit this year, not the old faithful bush chicken.
ive been told by exp guys this year should be good o grouse with them having 2 hatches. ive seen tons o them and my first time seeing mom with babies. man are they small
ive been seeing grouse on every trip so far. sometimes just 1 others 7 or more

Crazy... guess I've been driving the wrong areas. Like I said I heard one fire up the 2-stroke and that's it. Hope it's a good season like you guys are saying! I'm hungry for some grouse stirfry.

Seeing lots of chicks (insert squinty leary look and cheesy smile here) out there! Numbers look good!!

Well the weather over last couple of days should have sealed the fate of a huge portion of the grouse chicks. It's most likely going to be another lousy grouse season.

the rain is bad for 'em eh? It's crazy how much rain there's been. Also I drove through some of the craziest hail I have seen in a few years on Hwy 97 a few days ago. Insane. Those hailstones could've killed lots of little critters dead if they were caught out in it.

They get wet, then cold, then pneumonia and die

Still time for another hatch I think they will be fine

I think the second hatch is a myth. When you see small chicks in September they are most likely late hatches.

no myth just science, not unlikely for them to reproduce a second or third time if they lose there young well into summer
