Probably should have posted in the general forum but we just got a new pup shes 8 weeks and she is cute as can be. Shes a shar pei lab cross her mom was sher pei yellow lab and her dad was shar pei brown lab. She is mostly a golden tan colour with dark brown/black around her muzzle and on her paws. we are so stumped on a name I had all the boys names one could think of but we ended up falling in love with her so here we are. We need help with a name I posted it here cause we would love a hunting sort of name who knows maybe she will surprise me and want to hunt some bears or ducks with me?
cheers

I'm very poor at naming dogs nothing very original ever comes to mind. My most original is my curent #1 retriever Keela, short for Tequila, her reg name is Foxton's Cuervo Gold. Most of the rest are plain, Babe, Red, Tip, KC, Meggie, Molly, you see where Im going with this. BUT what I have found is pups tend to "name them selves" get to know your dog and something will spring to mind. :-D

Looks like all you dog owners stick to the rule of no more than 2 syllables. Smart move. Anything longer and the mutt just won't pay attention. Heard an owner one time call after their dog Aloysius:confused: Pronounced alowishius. Geez

Ayla is common Turkish feminine name that means "halo of light around the sun or moon". Since Ayla is reserved for the feminine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female), it is usually synonymous with "moonlight". "Ay" means "Moon" in Turkish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_language), so that "Ayla" means the "Halo around the moon". "Ayla" also means "with the moon" as a word but in the context of given names, its meaning is synonymous with related names Aylin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aylin) and Tülin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%BClin). "Aylin" also derives from "Ay". The name may have its roots in old Persian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_language#Old_Persian), where it means moonlight.

Yeah we need a picture of this cute puppy for best results, But here's the names of some of the female dogs I've known. The two I have now are Emma and Jezebel. My last dog was Flo. I've known a few Sadies that were great dogs but I never liked the name myself. There's also Betty, Lilly, Dora (what you get when a 3 year old girl gets to pick the name), Mika, Barbie and Nelly (she was a very nervous puppy).
The advice I usually give is to stand on your porch and yell out the names that you like. At some point you'll be out in public calling for your dog so its best to pick one you feel comfortable with.
