Finally heard that my PAL is on its way...(thats another story...what a delay!!!)....So I will be looking soon for something for my 12 year old, 5ft 4inch, 100 lb son...I want bolt action with a clip....now here is the quetions...
1. make?
2. caliber?
3. new...used?
4. what have you got for sale?
He will be using it for the next couple of years for deer locally, then when he has a little more size he will graduate to the '06....at present I am leaning to the 243......

I started practicing with a 22-250 when I was 12 or so and then moved into my Dads .270 for hunting.
Happy Hunting!

My daughter shot my 6.5x55 when she was 12, but that was in a full wood military rifle that absorbs a lot of recoil.
The 6.5x55 is sweet for anybody though, even in lighter guns.
Others will say the 7mm-08 won't recoil more than a 243 but will be a better deer killer and be adequate for black bear and even moose with the right bullet placement.
As an adult I used a 243 for years and never lost a deer. I loved it until my accuracy in the gun went to hell.

Tikka T3 laminated..
My wife has one in .243.
Very accurate, no recoil, detachable magazine and it is very light weight wood stock. its a tac driver!
I think there is a picture of it in my gallery.
When I was 11 years old my dad bought me a Ruger M77 II Compact in .243. I still have it 12 years later and it is awesome. I've taken many deer and bear with it and you couldn't ask for a lighter rifle. I was a small kid at 11 so you might even think of getting your son the .308

I just got my 12 year old daughter a Savage Bolt action youth model from SIR in 243 WIN.
Her grouping at 100 yards with it was great, she didn't feel much of the recoil and felt very comfortable shooting it.

I got my son who is 13 a Remington 700 SPS (floorplate) in 7-08 stainless. I considered the Model 7 youth but I figured at the rate he is growing he would be better off with the 700 which should last a lifetime. I put a Burris Fullfield 2 3-9X40 BP on it.
