Trapper's Education Course Lower Mainland

I have contacted an instructor (Allan Starkey) about getting a Trapper's Education Course set up in the Lower Mainland. He has requested that we have 7-8 people signed up in order to set a date. There are two of us so far, so I am looking for 5-6 more. Sounds like the course will be in Maple Ridge.
The cost is $300, once the numbers are confirmed he will set a date.

Just an update, we have 5 people interested and looking for a few more. The course will be in Maple Ridge on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, date to be set once we have enough people.

Alan is a very knowledgeable man.

Remember, once you get your course, it is not like hunting, where everyone can just go out on crown land.


Once you walk out of there, you have two choices.

A) Trap private land, with landowner permission
B) Buy a trap line, which are relatively hard to find and a few thousand dollars, but you get a huge tract of crown land that is yours to trap.

Alot easier for me to trap on pvt land then try to find a trapline being that i am in the lower mainland.

What are you looking to trap?

I would guess focusing on Coyotes, Raccoon, and the odd beaver/muskrat if you find a property that suits it?

Something I always wanted to get but never got round to it .
Better to have it and use it occasionally then to need it and not have it.

Took the course with my trapping partner. There was a few others in the course, one of which was a gentleman about 70, One day we were setting up 330 conibears, and we just set them and left them on the table. the older gentleman bent over to tie his shoe, and came within about 1" of hitting the trigger with his hat brim lol....

that story has little to do with this topic, but had to share.

When you are out trapping, and get stumped by these pesky fur bearers ( which I can assure you will happen) throw me a message, may be able to shed a bit of light,
