Hi, i am a teenager that is really eager to go hunting, I'm almost fourteen and I read on the goverment website you must be fourteen to get your core cirtificate, I was wondering where the closest exaiminer for the core program is in vancouver, I live on the west end near kits so any advice would be great,

Im not from Van city, but to get you pointed in the right direction; get a ride to a sporting store nearby (one that sells firearms) and ask the salesperson behind the counter for a list of contacts offering the CORE course.
Getting into hunting will be the best thing you'll ever do bud, have fun!

you only have to be 10 years old to take the core.

I'll second silvercore. I didn't take the core course but the PAL course i took was second to none, great instruction.

Took my PAL years ago with Silvercore and the Core a few years back with the Italian Sporting Goods boys.
Highly recommend both groups.

You need two things. Your PAL (possesion and Aquisition Licence) and your Hunters core. The core gives you your hunters number so that you can puchase a hunting licence. The PAL allows you to be in possesion (own or borrow) a firearm and ammunition. You can get your hunters number and then borrow someone elses firearm as long as you are in direct supervision of a person with a PAL. That allows you to take game on your own licence. There is also a junior licence. Not sure how that works. I think you again have to be accompanied and any game goes against the older persons licence.....

I belong to Saperton Fish and Game (New West). We are planning on running a PAL course followed by a core course sometime in February.

Since he is 14, he cannot obtain a PAL yet. He also cannot get a junior hunting license either, as at 14, you are required to obtain your CORE and have your own license and tags.
He could take the CFSC course, to get a minor's license, but that wouldn't be overly useful, since he has to be supervised by a licensed adult while hunting until he is 18. At that time, he can get his PAL as well.
