This past thanks giving weekend myself, bro and dad headed to one of our favourite hunting grounds in region 8. Knowing the area very well our spirits were high.
Saturday morning we concentrated on some ridges that have produced in the past. Slowly working the ridges, we had seen some small bucks aswell as the usual does and fawns.
That evening we plan to sit in some natural deer funnels. We set up early in the afternoon. Each again only to see spikes/fork horns.
Sunday moring we decided to head to some higher elevation ridges. We split up and work the ridges. Cresting a small rise I spotted a good size 3 pt with no brows sleeping. I watched him for about 2 minutes trying to decide to take him or not. I had my video camera too but decided to pass on him. I put a stalk on him anyways. I got about 45 yards from him and I hear BOOM! The 3 pt causually get up and saunters off. The shot was from below about 500 yards were my brother was.
Not 10 seconds after the shot he's on the radio and I can barely understand him he's so excited, But I make out BIG BUCK from his jiberish. I tell him to calm down and we be there in 10 minutes. So I call dad and we head to where he was. We found him and his buck. He was so pumped he could barely talk. This is probably his fifth deer and his biggest. Not a monster but a respectable white tail none the less.
Monday never produced any shooter bucks.
Another great trip with a great buck.
