My lady and I spent the weekend near 100 mile house again this year chasing bear. Saw a decent number of them but nothing that would look good in the freezer so they'll all have a chance to fatten up for next year. Unusually hot and dry conditions made for different hunting there than usual and I suspect the older bear were under forest cover and not out in the open where we could see them. I wasn't maniacally driven to get one this year for some reason so we took it a bit easier and had a great and relaxing trip with the dogs. I stalked a young sow to about 25' which is my personal best so I'm pretty happy with that. It always feels better to come home empty after passing on some animals than missing chances on ones you wanted to take or not seeing anything at all. Got some fishing in during mid day and wore out the pups. Anyway, we had a great wildlife viewing trip despite not seeing any big bear. One the list for this year were: moose, coyote, deer, a lynx, a fisher!, foxes, plenty of small game, a kingfisher, eagles, sand hill cranes, and of course bear. Had a great trip and I might even get back up again this year before the season closes. Thought I'd share a couple of pics. The fuzzy brown blob in the last one is the young sow through an iPhone. Or a Sasquatch. I forget which.

Thanks. It was! I was driving down a main road and it crossed in front of me. I sat and watched it through the binocs a while then decided to try for a pic. Got out of the truck, went to the bed and unlocked the cap, rummaged around for the camera, walked back around to the front of the truck and it was still just sitting there. Obviously it could see how much slower I run.

That is awesome! THAT is exactly the reason I hunt. Sure,'it's awesome to fill the freezer and go home with an animal....but man oh man is it just as unreal to go home knowing you got to experience the outdoors in that clarity. I am jealous. I have an annual camping trip I do up that way and its definitely my version of perfection. So much wildlife and there's no better feeling than knowing you're the least significant thing around you. That photo of the Lynx is awesome!

World record first. Hunter tells another hunter on a public forum to come to his area for big game. ;-)

Thanks for the tip man!
