Well my daughter graduated from chicken hunter to Deer hunter this year! We were on our annual elk hunt but she had a much different agenda when we got there!! This was actually her first time on the trip as the school strike was still in effect so she was able to come.
We were sitting in a block a couple hours before dark trying to coax out a bull elk when I heard a snap from the timber behind me. Out walked 4 mulie bucks from the timber and they were feeding our way into the block. I went from Hunter to cameraman in a hurry. There was a nice buck that was more than worthy of the title "first buck". We switched positions and she was now getting the 'Buck Fever" shakes as the deer fed closer to us. I could not imagine how she felt as it took 35 minutes from we spotted the bucks to when she took the shot...a few scenarios must have ran through her head in this time. When it came down to "the moment" she was steady as a rock and put great shot on him at 169 yards. Double lunged him and it was all over. I'm so proud of the way she handled herself through the whole ordeal.
As a side note, she is not in the good books with her brothers as I made them shoot a 2 point for their first deer and neither of them have shot anything in full velvet!!!
Thanks for reading and I will try and post the video with pictures!
